Scotch Tape was in our thoughts as we circled up - such a sad loss RIP
Location - Cha-Am Beach Road South
​The route to the run site from the Hua Hin direction involved a long detour that was deemed necessary because of the large number of Thais visiting Cha-Am for the Queen's Birthday and Mother's Day holiday.
Our celebration was for the CAH3 12th Anniversary but it was tinged with sadness as we observed a minutes silence for the passing of Scotch Tape with nearly all present having many memories of a great hasher and true gentleman. The trail followed some of the route of last New Year's Eve run in the delightful Cha-Am Forest Park, perhaps not so delightful for the very tall guys who had to stoop under vegetation that had overgrown the paths in several places. There were more forest paths for the runners after the split but for the walkers it was all the way back along the Beach Road although there was some nice scenery of a different kind. Then came the big disappointment the celebratory free beer was only LEO, no Chang. However, Dragon Tail did a great job serving monster hot dogs with salsa and just about any sauce or relish you could think of. Then, Colossus's grandson, Spencer, was down-downed as a virgin and Space Cowboy was welcomed back after a long absence because of breaking his toe.

On After at Ozone Restaurant on Beach Road South 

Location - West side of Bypass, about 4km North of Pala-U intersection
​The car park was moved 200m North along the Bypass in case our vehicles got stuck in boggy ground after heavy rain. Fortunately, the rain held off both for the run and circle. At the start of the run, we had to go back 200m on the Bypass shoulder but soon were out into head high grass reminiscent of the land of the Fukawi tribe. Then came the runner/walkers split both heading for different bridges to cross the Sam Phan Nam river, which is quite wide at this point although elsewhere, crossing it on its meandering course towards Pranburi and the sea, it is just a narrow stream. The tall grass gave way to pineapple and sugar cane and, although it seemed likely to be a flat trail, we gradually gained height to a spot where a spectacular vista of distant hills in the direction of Burma opened up (see Cathusalem's photos).  Looking back to the East, the vista of hills was equally spectacular. After the trails merged we re-crossed the river taking us back to the Bypass with an optional detour to see the amazing Weaver birds nests (see Screwdriver's photos). Highlights of the circle included down-downs for our visitors from Chiang Mai, Softballs & Ball Breaker and for Dragon Tail going the wrong way and being oblivious to On On calls because she had her earphones on full blast.
